What did the temple add that the tent lacked?
The temple was the tabernacle with an address. Same God, same furniture, same curtain, same mediation; what changed was that the tent stopped moving and a son of David built a house for God's name. That permanence was real progress: a fixed place of prayer, a welcome for the foreigner, and glory filling the house. But it added no access. The veil still hung, the high priest still went in alone, and Babylon could still burn it down. The greater glory arrived when God became flesh, and when the veil tore from top to bottom.

The temple kept the tent's design and added permanence
God told David, “I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have moved around in a tent and in a tabernacle.” Solomon built to the same plan: the same altar and lampstand, the same bread and incense, the same ark, and the same Most Holy Place behind the same kind of veil. What changed was that God's dwelling stopped traveling. Psalm 132 celebrates the arrival: “This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, for I have desired it.”

It came with a promise, and the builder was a son of David
David wanted to build God a house; God answered by promising to build David one. “I will set up your seed after you,” He said, “and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” The temple is therefore not just architecture; it is covenant, with the house and the throne tied together in a single sentence. Solomon's dedication even quotes the promise back to God, asking Him to keep what He swore to David.
When your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. It added glory, and a fixed place where outsiders could pray
When the priests came out, “Yahweh’s glory filled Yahweh’s house,” so thick that they could not stand to minister. But Solomon refused to overclaim: “Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house that I have built!” The temple's greatness was never that it held God, but that God agreed to put His name there and listen. And He listened for strangers: “Moreover concerning the foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, when he shall come out of a far country for your name’s sake,” Solomon asks God to hear him too, so that all peoples may know His name. The temple is the tabernacle's hospitality made permanent.

It added no access, and it could be lost
For all its gold, the temple left the way in unchanged. The veil still hung, the high priest still entered alone once a year, and the Holy Spirit was saying “that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing.” God also warned Solomon that the house was not a guarantee: if Israel turned to other gods, “this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight.” Babylon burned it. Jeremiah had already mocked the false confidence: “Don’t trust in lying words, saying, ‘Yahweh’s temple, Yahweh’s temple, Yahweh’s temple, are these.’” A building is never a substitute for a relationship.
The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing;The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

The greater glory: Christ, and His people as a temple
Haggai promised that “the latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,” and Jesus announced what that meant: “one greater than the temple is here.” When He was challenged in the courts, He said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up,” and John explains that “he spoke of the temple of his body.” At His death “the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom,” opening the way the old house could only guard. Now the dwelling of God is a people: “You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house,” and “you are a temple of God.” Revelation closes the arc: “I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple.”
‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says Yahweh of Armies; ‘and in this place will I give peace,’ says Yahweh of Armies.”The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
