Does the Bible teach there are other gods?

³²For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been anything as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?

³³Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

³⁴Or has God tried to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

³⁵It was shown to you so that you might know that Yahweh is God. There is no one else besides him.

³⁶Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you. On earth he made you to see his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

³⁷Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

³⁸to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.

³⁹Know therefore this day, and lay it to your heart, that Yahweh himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath. There is no one else.

⁴⁰You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh your God gives you, forever.

⁵I am Yahweh, and there is no one else. Besides me, there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not known me;

⁶that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is no one besides me. I am Yahweh, and there is no one else.

⁷I form the light, and create darkness. I make peace, and create calamity. I am Yahweh, who does all these things.

⁸Distil, you heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness. Let the earth open, that it may produce salvation, and let it cause righteousness to spring up with it. I, Yahweh, have created it.

⁹Woe to him who strives with his Maker— a clay pot among the clay pots of the earth! Shall the clay ask him who fashions it, ‘What are you making?’ or your work, ‘He has no hands?’

¹⁰Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What have you become the father of?’ or to a mother, ‘To what have you given birth?’”

¹¹Thus says Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “You ask me about the things that are to come, concerning my sons, and you command me concerning the work of my hands!

¹²I have made the earth, and created man on it. I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens; and I have commanded all their army.

⁴Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

⁵For though there are things that are called “gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many “gods” and many “lords”;

⁶yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.

⁷However, that knowledge isn’t in all men. But some, with consciousness of the idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

⁸But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don’t eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.

⁹But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.

¹⁰For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’s temple, won’t his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

¹¹And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

¹²Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

¹³Therefore if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forever more, that I don’t cause my brother to stumble.

¹God presides in the great assembly. He judges among the gods.

²“How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?” Selah.

³“Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

⁴Rescue the weak and needy. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.”

⁵They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

⁶I said, “You are gods, all of you are sons of the Most High.

⁷Nevertheless you shall die like men, and fall like one of the rulers.”

⁸Arise, God, judge the earth, for you inherit all of the nations.
